WATCH OUT WATCH OUT THERE’S A HEDGEHOG ABOUT
According to Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Aylesbury, our diminishing hedgehog population has
started waking from hibernation early due to the mild winter. In some cases they may not have attempted hibernation at all. So if you can, leave some food in your garden for the poor spikey ones and if you see one wandering around during the day, he or she may be in trouble and desperate for food so it may be worth getting advice from their website or giving Tiggywinkles a call for some advice.I’ve started putting small amounts of dog food and water near our home built hedgehog box in case last years couple are awake and a wandering during the night.
(No bread or milk , it’s really not good for them).

dog food is extremly bad for hedehogs, esp. if they are wild. They are insectivors. bugss like mealworms and other things like that are what they should eat. If they are a captive bred hedgehog then a mix of HIGH quality cat food is good. [Royal canin, chicken soup for the cat lovers soul etc]

Hi Anneliese, thanks for you comment we took advice from local hedgehog rescue organisations so I guess there must be some disagreement about what’s appropriate.
