silent vacuumSaturday morning – it’s weekend hoover time next door (get those dust bunnies!!). It’s lucky that I quite like drone music. I think I may have found a suitable Xmas pressie for my hoovering obsessed neighbours or maybe it would lend itself to be being an anonymous gifted Easter egg. Ladies and gentlemen (drum rolls) the silent vacuum cleaner (wild applause)…sssshhhh…behold:

    Hi e,

I got one of those brooms with the rubber bristles. Since then I have almost completely quit using the vacuum. The broom actually gets the dog hair out of the rugs better, and is less effort to use. It also has the advantage of not sending the dogs into a barking frenzy. For $20, these things are hard to beat.

I know the things you mean- a manual carpet sweeper. Not in quite the plentiful supply that they were years ago (not in the UK anyway,or I’m not looking in the right places). The ones I have seen are the same price as a cheep electric vacuum (good old rip-off Britain)-but a good silent solution nonetheless.

    Hi E,

It’s really more like a push broom, only with rubber bristles, as seen here: http://www.theonesweep.com/?directLoad As they rub the carpet they build up a static electric charge, which helps get the dirt out. It also works fine on other floor surfaces. Of course, you could get your neighbor one of those vacuuming robots :)

Woah!- that’s different. Why is the demo guy a Brit?? Are Brit’s more believable (they con people better?) or don’t American men want to be seen employed a household cleaning object? I always thought Brit’s are only deployed as adorable upper class twits like Hugh Grant?- actually he’s ok- makes me laugh anyway) or as movie villains (”Hello -I’m Steven Berkoff and I’m a grade-A nutter!!”)That aside I’m not sure I’ve seen anything like that here -mind you I don’t frequent the shopping channels so maybe they are sold via that outlet and not the high street.I Will have to investigate…first on my beige estate to have a rubber carpet rake thingie.
