WHERE WERE YOU DURING THE GREAT PRIMARK RIOTS?
Budget conscious clothes store Primark opened their latest store in London’s Oxford Street and
shoppers deluged the store in what may later become known as “The great Primark riots of olde London Towne”. Primark are an unusual phenomena as they are as accepted in the market place by designer clothes addicts, the poor, the cash conscious and chav – culture alike. Primark fashions have even appeared in Vogue magazine. Their success comes amidst a period of much retail gloom on the UK high street and in a traditionally tough sector of the market too. Primark have thrived by turning designs seen on the fashion catwalks into affordable versions and available in their stores to buy in as little as six weeks. In 2005 Primark helped make the military jacket a style icon at an affordable price though they have also been taken to court twice by clothing chain Monsoon for allegedly copying their designs.
