Gordon Brown’s Housing Homebuy and Hips

It’s just weeks since Tony Blair walked away from being Britain’s Prime Minister and his arch nemesis Gordon Brown took the helm. Today we got advance notice of 23 bills that will be in the Queen’s speech and which we all now get a sneak peek of Brown’s legislature plans. The planned bills include:

Our Gordon

Housing market renewal scheme

Sustainable communities house building to parts of the North and Midlands

Home Information Packs (HIPS)to finally be introduced

More social housing that must meet ’social standards’

100,000 homes to be built in “carbon neutral” communities planned for 550 government owned sites

Greenbelt land still protected

New HomeBuy scheme for social tenants, key workers and other first time buyers to buy share of a home

A target of 3 million new homes by 2020

But maybe NO to super casino’s

The biggest potential U-turn is the announcement of a rethink on the concept of building ’super casino’s’ in various areas as a means to regenerate the areas. This could be a fundamental rethink of the whole idea of taking the brakes off the restrictions on gambling in general.
