At least they did notice the commotion. Do you remember the great hurricane of October 1987 (or whenever it was – too lazy to google). I was away in the Fens then on a kind of walking holiday thing. I had my diary with me. I woke up the morning after the hurricane and wrote “slept well – it is just so peaceful in the countryside” or something like that. When I opened the curtains the garden of the b&b was filled with bits of roofing and branches and debris. I’d never make a Samuel Pepys would I?
Unless s/he is a fire-fighter on duty, s/he shouldn’t interfere, anyway.
Staying indoors with the windows closed is the recommended procedure in these cases.
