Electricity consumption for the past week has fallen to an all time low, for us of 23kWh which is odd as I’m unsure what we’ve really cut back on. We haven’t started offsetting with any minor off-grid initiatives yet but hopefully that will eventuate in the year ahead.

Scilly Comment
“That was George Harrison there. He was influenced by all things Indian wasn’t he? From a time when we looked to India for spiritual enlightenment rather than banking and support enquiries”
Radio Scilly DJ underlines his radio hyper local credentials with a questionable comment following the playing of a George Harrison track.
New Light For A Price In Mainstream Places
The local (there’s only one) supermarket (ChavAsda) is selling LED light bulbs (a sign of things to come?). A bit pricey at £10 a bulb (mind you a quick look on-line says that’s a competitive price) but at least they’re not warm white (*spit*) with a colour temperature stated as 4000k (fine by me as we have daylight CFL bulbs in the micro-house at present).

Maintain Microwave Silence
There really needs to be a way of muting the annoying completion beeps on a microwave oven. Or even a choice. Like phone ring-tones.A soft ‘Ta’daa’ would suffice. Maybe a bit of Brahms. I’m not asking for a talking microwave. That would, I’m sure, quickly lose its novelty factor.
It’s a first world annoyance but shushing at a microwave oven at three in the morning and asking it (OK, failing to catch the final few seconds in order to manually avoid filling the silence with those annoying completion beeps) to be more respectful of sleeping neighbours can test your usual relationship to functional white goods.

Those moments before a storm sometime seem like the equivalent a smile being suddenly wiped off a cheerful face. Anthropomorphising weather?
Bus Pass Elvis is in the building (again)
I see David Bishop aka Bus Pass Elvis (Party) is standing in the Feltham and Heston by election. When he stood in Kettering he promised to fill in potholes, turn public schools into pound shops, and keep public lavatories. Previous political incarnations have included standing as the Militant Elvis Anti-Tesco Popular Front.
The manifesto for the upcoming by election can be read here.

We’ve got our weekly kWh electricity consumption down to 27 kWh for the week with 50% of usage during the cheaper off peak charged period. The biscuits are on me.
