This is the 2nd Prefab Sprout Interview I have from 1985 which takes place after the previously posted session . Paddy McAloon seems quite enthused by Thomas Dolby’s production of the Steve McQueen album and is already dismissive of how well previous album Swoon would stand up in 1985’s move towards a more heavily produced sound.

This Interview with two thirds of the ZTT record label from 1985 is an interesting look back at the label that fostered Frankie goes to Hollywood , The Art Of Noise and Propaganda onto the mid 1980’s. Producer Trevor Horn and wife Jill Sinclair probably reveal more about the workings of the then fledgling label without the hyperbole of Paul Morley. It’s interesting to hear the role that Dave Robinson of Stiff records played in plugging the physical product of The Art Of Noise.

Other artists on their rosta at the time achieved less of a high profile impact including the French torch singing of Anne Pigalle and systems music of Andrew Poppy.Nevertheless they illustrated the high standards that were often set by the record label directors.

The interview is quite poignant as Jill Sinclair has been in an induced coma since 2006 following a tragic accident.

This interview is placed here with the greatest respect to her friends and family and honours the place of ZTT in music history. We all wish for her eventual recovery.

I thought I’d post another part of the 1985 Godley & Creme Interview as stats seem to indicate a recent keen interest. I thought I’d place the audio from that interview here. It’s odd to dig up that old sugary pop up but I loved Scritti at the time(oh my youth) and was disappointed that I couldn’t get to see Green play live finally last year (the various youtube clips finally lay to rest the rumours that he relied too heavily on varispeeding his own vocals hence the lack of a true live outing back then…unless of course he’s pitch shifting them now).

Back in the day (fetch the zimmer frame) I used to frequent a local recording studio that sold musical instruments (they were quite a big concern at the time) who had apparently gone to see Scritti (or so they said anyway) in the hope of selling them a few new toys and the contingent returned to recount that Green was then recording via a publison sampler thingy (an expensive rack mount chunk of sampling memory with early time stretching capabilities) and was recording his vocals into this thing and picking out the most perfected ones before committing to tape.

Whilst I type this I have a stuck loop of the deep reggae bass from The word girl thumping around my grey matter.Can loud music in your mind cause virtual hearing damage?

Godley and Creme here from 1985 talking about the making of The Police’s Wrapped around your finger which was one of the first (if not the first) video that combined normal speed music with slow motion visuals achieved by getting the musicians to mime to their own record at double the speed and filmed at double the speed so that half speed slow motion affects the visuals on playback. It’s easier these days to see how the original shoot looked. If you’re at all curious I’ve speeded up a section of that video here though thanks to modern digital audio the music is heard here speeded up but without the pitch change that would normally occur.

News from February 1985 after an IRA bomb had exploded outside a Marks and Spencer’s in Paris. The dead man reported hear was  a French Warehouse foreman, Leonard Rocha. The Middle East is, as always an ongoing part of the news. The Miners strike is still in progress though by this time the end was near.

I guess I’m combining two purposes with this tape archive (see earlier personal posting). I thought I’d finally post the full version of Moments In Love. Having posted only an edited highlight before I’ve had a fair amount of interest via private emails to put these up sometime. I will be finally posting in full and adding a live version of Donna albeit in glorious AM mono quality.
