I finally got to hear the demo tapes of what eventually became the briefly released and cleaned up album ‘People from bad homes’. Essentially Ava Cherry was David Bowie‘s backing singer circa Young Americans and briefly his girlfriend. Bowie promised many people that he’d write, produce and generally work on their careers but often these projects seldom saw the light of day. A remixed version of the demo tapes was released very briefly in 1995 by the remnants of Mainman, Bowie’s estranged management company in the 70′s but with Bowie’s voice removed. Here are sections of I am a laser from 1973 with Scream like a baby afterwards which Bowie listeners might recognise as eventually being recycled as Scream like a baby in 1980′s Scary Monsters And Super Creeps album.
