Women Have More Nightmares

A lecturer in psychology, Jennifer Parker has found that women experience more nightmares than men . In analysing dreams and via her membership of the International Association for the Study of Dreams and the University of the West of England research group she has identified three of the most commons dreams that women experience.

Traditional nightmares, concerning a threat to survival, nightmares of loss involving the loss of a family member or loved one and a third anxiety type dream labelled as ‘bizarre one-off nightmares’. (That’d be my most common one then).

Ms Parkers says,”Women tend to have more frequent nightmares…they are more emotionally intense and women are more affected when they wake up… I have concluded that dreams mirror real life anxieties and appear to play a role in preparing young adults at critical points in their lives ‘.

Her research and thesis is due for future release.

Lost In A Forest

Another slightly uncomfortable dream endured during the night (I didn’t get to sleep until around 3am and lay listening to the radio on headphones for quite some time) that I’m not quite sure I can describe as a nightmare more a ‘challenging’ dream which happens from time to time but at least it wasn’t my eternal stress test dream that I’ve had for over 15 years now that involves being late to film a wedding and everything going wrong (that one gives me the screaming ab dabs).

Dream Time
Anyway the synopsis of last nights dream is that my partner and I are away on a kind of ‘tour of Britain’ and we are staying in a large country hotel guest house (which is odd as that’s not something we’d choose) and we’re eager to get off in the morning (unreal) but all the bathrooms are being used so (and this is true to life) I wander off for a walk in the large acreage of woodland and get abducted by a well spoken student (like you do) who treats me well (It’s important that any potential abductor has manners it would seem) but keeps me held in a kind of maximum security halls of residence (where am I getting this stuff?) where I befriend others there who help to spring my escape.

Making My Escape
As the daylight fades I run into the twilight thinking I know how to get back to the guest house but it’s a more tortuous and uncharted route than I imagined and the dream ends as a large 4 wheel drive (where’s a crucifix when you need one?) vehicle is catching up with me.

I awoke somewhat shaken and to find that I had slept in such an awkward position that I now have a decidedly stiff neck.

Welcome To My Nightmares

Hey hey we’re the greys

Last nights dream was a nightmare which ended in a cold sweat around 3:30 AM and does not especially warrant any fine detailing other than to say the main theme was aliens (the little grey ones with the almond eyes), my capture with others (and corralled and held by other humans too, interesting and confusing twist) and the holding down and drilling through my cheeks and subsequent smashing of my teeth (at which point, thankfully I came to). I couldn’t get to sleep again after that.Do you think they were friendly? Happy times.
